Scholarships for Norwegian and International Students

A scholarship is an opportunity given to the students in the form of “financial support” that opens doors to world class education. Scholarships are a way to help more students to study in Universities, University colleges and schools. Norway is becoming a popular study destination for international students. Therefore, the international students need scholarship programs in order to gain better educational facilities. There are many scholarships out there; you just need to apply for them before time.

Following are the popular scholarships being provided to the International Students:

Science Without Borders

Science without Borders is a mobility program offering scholarships to Brazilian students at undergraduate, PhD and postdoc levels of study at higher education institutions in Norway. This scholarship program is offered in the areas of natural sciences, health, technology and engineering.

Applying mode: The undergraduate students can apply for this scholarship program directly to CAPES by submitting the following documents: Transcript of Records (original in Portuguese and a translated version in English), TOEFL or IELTS test certificate and a Copy of passport.

Eligibility: The PhD and postdoc applicants are eligible for this scholarship if they have a letter of acceptance from a Norwegian institution.

Semester Grants

The semester grants are awarded for a one to three months stay within the Norwegian semester periods and give an opportunity to students for fieldwork at a higher education institution in Norway. The grant covers accommodation, board, local transportation and pocket money.

Eligibility:  Students who have chosen a Norwegian topic for their Bachelor, Master or PhD are eligible for semester grants.

Erasmus

If you are a student at a European higher education institution, you may become an exchange student under the Erasmus-program. The program permits you to study overseas as part of your degree or to supplement your studies. The exchanges last between 3 and 12 months.

Eligibility: All the citizens of the EU countries who have finished at least one year of higher education are eligible for this exchange program.

Erasmus Mundus

Erasmus Mundus consists of Masters and PhD programs, offered by a consortium of at least three European higher education institutions. Students have to study in at least two institutions where the program lasts between one and two years and lead to the award of a recognized double, joint or multiple degrees.

Eligibility: Students who have been admitted to an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course are eligible for Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

Nordplus Higher Education

Nordplus is the Nordic Council of Minister’s program that benefits students enrolled in bachelor and master levels at a Nordic or Baltic higher education institution.

YGGDRASIL- Young Guest and Doctoral Researchers' Annual Scholarships for Investigation and Learning in Norway

The YGGDRASIL mobility program offers funding for international Ph.D. students and young researchers for research stays in Norway. This program includes all subjects and disciplines. The program covers settling-in expenses and other expenses based on fixed rates in connection with a research stays in Norway from 3 - 12 months.

Quota Scheme

Quota Scheme, provided by the Norwegian government, is for students from developing countries and countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The scheme encompasses courses taught in English at Master’s and Ph.D. level, along with the certain professional degrees.

Eligibility: The students from institutions which have collaboration agreements with Norwegian universities or university colleges are eligible for Quota scheme.

Applying mode: As a student, you can apply for this scheme directly from your home country, provided you’ve attained a basic qualification, i.e. Secondary school certificates and a minimum two years of higher education from their home country.

High North Fellowship Program

The High North Fellowship program provides scholarships to students from the Canada, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the US who attend an institution in Northern Norway as part of their higher education. The program is primarily aimed at students at the Master and Bachelor level, but is likewise open to PhD students and is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Each fellowship recipient receives a monthly stipend, and a travel grant. This scholarship is available for certain fields of study, such as, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, technology, environment, and business administration and tourism.

Eligibility: Students who are registered at a higher education institution in Canada, Japan, Russia, South Korea or the US are eligible for High North Fellowship Program. 

Scholarship for Norwegian & International Citizens:

The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund

The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund is basically for Norwegian citizens, but few international citizens are eligible for support. The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund consists of a loan and a grant that will cover the costs of studying in Norway.

Eligibility: You need to be a student at a Norwegian educational institution in order to apply for financial support and also, you need a residence permit before any support is paid out.
